FAQ

  • What is the Iowa Color Naming App?
  • The App presents a series of color naming tests that are designed to assess your color vision performance. This is NOT a diagnostic test and the results should not be used to draw any conclusions about color vision problems.
  • How do I download the Iowa Color Naming App?
  • The App is currently available for all Apple iOS devices and can be downloaded from the App Store. Currently, there is no version available for Android devices. Contact us if you would like to be updated on the availability of an Android version.
  • How do I configure the App?
  • The App can be configured by pressing the 'gear' icon on the instructions page. There are three properties that can be configured, none of them are required:
    • Patient Identifier - This can be any string you would like to use to act as an identifier for yourself in the test results
    • Email Address - You can set a default email address to send your results to when pressing the 'Submit Results' button
    • Brightness - This controls the brightness of your screen
  • I made a mistake during the test, what do I do?
  • If you made a mistake, you can press the 'Restart Testing' button in the upper right to restart the test from the beginning.
  • I finished a test, what do I do with the results?
  • When the test is completed, you will be presented with your results. The results are most meaningful to vision experts and can be shared with your physician if you have questions. You can also contact the Insitute for Vision Research if you would like to share your color naming test results with them. Again, this is NOT a diagnostic tool and no conclusions about your color vision should be drawn from your results. If you have concerns about your color vision performance, we recommend contacting an ophthalomologist.
